At Giggleswick, our academic standards are high across a broad curriculum and pupils are stretched without being stressed to achieve their personal best. Nurturing enquiring minds is at the heart of life and learning and pupils are encouraged to be questioning, curious and creative in their thinking.

We provide the normal path to GCSE/IGCSE in Year 11 and A level/BTEC qualifications in the sixth form. We recognise that our pupils are talented and accomplished in a wide range of skills and provide a broad curriculum with flexible learning opportunities that can be tailored to meet their personal needs and interests from Year 7 right through to the sixth form. We embrace a breadth of ability and ensure that each child receives the appropriate level of support as well as challenging them to make the most of their abilities.

Accordion Years 7, 8 and 9
In Years 7, 8 and 9 our aim is to devote a substantial amount of time to the core subjects while maintaining breadth.
Biology, Chemistry and Physics are taught separately by subject specialists. Pupils in Year 7 will have the opportunity to try French, Spanish, German and Latin, continue with three of these in Year 8 and two in Year 9.

In addition to core subjects, all pupils will study Design Technology, Drama, ICT, RE, Music and Art, and have one period of Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) a week.
Pupils will be set according to their ability in Maths and Science.
Our class sizes are small, and attention is individual. Every pupil gets the chance to explore their talents and skills.
Accordion Years 10 and 11 (GCSE)
Pupils normally take nine or ten GCSE subjects in Years 10 and 11. All pupils take English Language and English Literature, Mathematics, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and, normally, a language (French, German, Spanish or Latin).
They also choose three subjects from:

Art, Product Design, Drama, French, German, Spanish, Latin, Geography, History, Home Economics, Music, Physical Education, Religious Studies.

Pupils are encouraged to take two languages if they wish (French is not mandatory).

All pupils continue to have lessons in Information Technology, Citizenship, Personal, and Social and Health Education, which includes Careers.
Accordion Sixth Form (A level/BTEC)
A levels provide the core academic input for our sixth formers. We offer a range of subjects taught by subject specialists in small groups. A levels generally require a greater degree of independent learning than GCSEs and are more academically demanding. Students take three A Levels alongside our academic enrichment programme.
We also offer a selection of BTEC courses, which tend to suit young people who prefer a more guided learning experience and ongoing assessment throughout the course. For pupils considering going on to university they will normally be advised to take a suitable A level alongside their BTEC.
Our sixth formers are also given the opportunity to participate in a number of enrichment programmes, which take their learning beyond the purely academic curriculum. These include EPQs (Extended Project Qualification), Headstart programmes, MOOCs, university courses, work experience, volunteering, Duke of Edinburgh. We also run a Sixth Form Lecture Programme throughout the year.
